The 315 Foods Initiative is a multi-faceted project aimed at establishing and developing a progressive, receptive and innovative food sector within the counties of Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim and Cavan.. The project seeks to encourage small food producers in the North West region to learn from each other, experts in the sector and from international best practice.. Contact Details..  ...   initiative of the four County Enterprise Boards (CEBs) in the North West (Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan Donegal) and has been financially supported under Measure 4.. 1 of the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE II), as administered by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), the International Fund for Ireland, each of the constituent CEBs, FÁS, Skillsnet and contributions from the member companies.. The 315 Foods Network currently has approximately 40 members across the 4 counties, with plans to substantially increase its membership base in 2006.. Content 315 Foods Network 2005..     Descriptive info: 315 Foods Members are continually able to participate in subsidised training programmes, designed specifically to improve their business performance.. Training Programmes are designed specifically with small food businesses in mind, and address the technical, regulatory and commercial issues relevant to micro food businesses.. Recently, 315 Members completed a new, accredited Training Programme, the aim of which was to provide the owner/managers of micro-food businesses with the skills necessary to implement initiatives to support the growth and development of their businesses.. The Programmes consisted of 6 x 1 day Training Modules and 3 x 0.. 5 day on-site Mentoring visits per participant.. The Topics covered during Training included:.. Future foods & Market trends.. Gateway  ...   Training Programme cost was subsidised by 315 Foods, with the help of FAS and the International Fund for Ireland.. The Programme was accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management.. 315 Foods also recently completed a 'Start your own Food Business' Programme for entrepreneurs within the 4 counties who are currently researching the possibility of establishing their own food business..     Descriptive info: In order to benefit from membership of 315 Foods, it is necessary for food businesses to be based within the 4 counties, and satisfy the following criteria:.. 1.. Produce a quality food, drink or fresh product for sale outside their own manufacturing premises.. 2.. Employ between 1 and 50 people.. 3.. Have their main business in one of the four counties.. 4.. Have the capability, capacity and enthusiasm necessary to actively participate in the programme.. 5.. Have satisfied the regulations set by the statutory organisations in relation to food manufacturing.. It is recognised however, that the activities within the programme may also be of interest to other businesses engaged in the food sector or food related activity e.. g.. Delis, Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes, Food Retailers, Distributors.. Where possible, and where their participation will add value to the programme, businesses from these sectors are actively encouraged to get involved in the programme.. Larger food producers may also be included in some of the training and/or networking events.. Some details are set out below.. "THE TASTE OF SUCCESS".. High Profile Seminar for Local Food Businesses.. Local speciality food producers are getting the chance to learn from Ireland s most successful food industry executives in an upcoming seminar in June.. The 315 Foods Accel Project is made of a group of over 40 SME s operating in the counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo and Cavan.. 315 Foods is holding a major seminar in the Slieve Russell Hotel on 13th June aimed at providing local food producers with effective growth and marketing strategies for their businesses, with a focus on the local and national markets The keynote speaker is Michael Carey, Chairman of Jacobs Fruitfield and winner of the 2005 Ernst Young Industry Entrepreneur of the Year, and he will be joined by Peter Ward, Ireland s leading artisan food producer.. A 315 Food group stand was organised for IFEX, Ireland's showcase food trade exhibition, which was held in Belfast in April 2004.. Produce of some seventeen food producers in the region were exhibited, and seven member firms visited the show and were able to view their own products exhibited under the 315 umbrella.. Best Practice Visit to Foodex/Meatex Exhibition, Birmingham.. A group of 14 people attended from 315 Foods in March 2004.. As well as attendance at the event, the group also visited Food and Drink Net, an existing local food producer network established more than four years ago, and with more than 100 members currently.. Best Practice Visit to SIAL, Paris.. SIAL is one of the world's top 5 international food events, and is held every two years in Paris.. A group of 20 from 315 Foods travelled to SIAL in October 2004.. Best Practice Visit to Boston, November 2004.. A group of six participated in a best practice visit to Boston in November 2004.. The group visited Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, home of the Quincy Food Halls which have an international reputation as showcasing the most modern and innovative concepts in specialist food retailing.. Quincy Market is the most popular tourist destination in Boston, and the group met with new owner-managers and entrepreneurs and gained exposure to new products, markets trends and innovations.. As well as the Market, the group visited a range of multiple and symbol group supermarkets, ranging from upper end/organic and health focused  ...   under the INTERREG Programme.. "Taste of West Cork" Food Fair.. Four member firms travelled to the Taste of West Cork Food Fair in September 2005.. The fair was a follow on to a successful first-time event held in 2004, and is essentially a showpiece initiative to build on the achievements of local food producers and tourism providers in establishing the region's strong reputation for quality food and hospitality.. It is designed to emphasise excellence and environmental quality and to reflect positive local characteristics such as the richness of the area's heritage, culture and landscape.. "Facilitating Innovation in Functional Foods" Conference, Enniskillen.. This conference was organised as part of a wider initiative aimed at enhancing innovation in the food sector throughout Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic.. Five members of 315 Foods attended, with at least one exhibiting products as part of the event.. "Independent's Day" Conference, Belfast.. A group of 6 members attended the "Independent's Day" Conference held in Belfast in October.. This event focused on the needs of independent retailers and the market opportunities that may exist for food producers in the face of the proliferation of multiples.. Kinsale Conference and Visit to Fuchsia.. A group of 3 members jointly attended the "Making Local Food Work for You" Conference in Kinsale, Co Cork, which addressed, amongst other things,.. an overview of the Irish local food sector - quality, consumer appeal, availability etc;.. a discussion of key considerations in developing local food opportunities;.. ideas for creating retail propositions based around local food;.. details of a number of local food initiatives for retailers from Ireland and the UK.. The trip incorporated a networking dinner with representatives of the well-known and successful Fuchsia food network and brand in West Cork.. As well as the direct experience of the Fuchsia brand and network in the region, members were also exposed to a range of buyers and suppliers at the conference.. Programme Launch, Cavan.. 315 Foods was formally launched by the Minister for State Noel Treacy at the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan in April 2004.. The launch was organised as a major promotional and showcase event and was attended by a range of participants and regional and national stakeholders.. More than 600 guests attended.. The event also involved a "Food Fair" and guests were able to sample a wide range of produce from the North West region.. Demonstrations were given by renowned chef Neven Maguire, and John McKenna, another widely respected food expert, gave advice and promotional support to producers and guests.. There was significant and very positive local and national press coverage, and thirty-three food producers exhibited at the event, including many who were already members and many who have since joined..
