    Descriptive info: Cloverfield NS is a three-teacher Catholic primary school in the parish of Kilteely-Dromkeen in east Limerick.. Both boys and girls receive their primary education in a friendly secure environment where they are taught all subjects of the Primary School Curriculum.. There are currently 51 pupils enrolled in the eight classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.. Those in the Infant Room are taught by Principal Mrs Noreen O'Dea, those from 1st to 3rd classes are taught by Ms Bríd O'Meara,and the Senior Room pupils are taught by Ms.. Louise Davis.. celebrated its centenary during the 2009/ 2010 school year.. A celebration calendar was printed featuring a variety of photographs which provide a snapshot of the life and activities of the school during the last 100 years.. Copies of  ...   present pupils,staff and BOM members participated in the Mass which was followed by the unveiling of a commemorative wall plaque by the three 6th class pupils, Caoimhe O'Dea, Méabh McCarthy Sarah Miller; and the planting of a tree by the oldest past pupil present, Mrs.. Nellie McGrath (née Gleeson) and the youngest pupil at the time, Ciara O'Dwyer.. A Centenary celebration book was launched which includes a collection of written memories of many associated with the school and its history as well as many photographs..     Descriptive info: 7-a-side Hurling 2012.. This year's hurling league was once again very successful for our 7-a-side panel of Sean McCarthy(C), Dylan Holmes, Brian O'Grady, Eoghan O'Dea, Robbie Holmes, Nicole Kenny, Shane Dwane, Josh Sheehan, Edward English and Shannon McCarthy.. Matches were played against Cappamore NS, Kilteely NS and Garrydoolis NS, and we won each of these.. Nothing could be taken for granted, however, when we learned that we would once again face Garrydoolis NS in the final to be played on the synthetic GAA pitch at UL.. This match was played on the afternoon of Tuesday, 11th June with a great group of parents and pupils travelling to support the team.. At half time it was 1-1 each and some fine playing and scoring the Garrydoolis lads gained a lead.. With a goal needed to claim victory, our team kept up the effort and the sliotar made its way into the back of the net with less than a minute to go bringing the final score 3-3 to 2-5..  ...   and Darren who visit the school each week.. HALLELUJAH 2011 Concert Series.. In September, 2011 Principal Mrs O'Dea announced that a group of pupils from 2nd to 6th classes would be travelling to the RDS in Dublin on Sunday, 11th December, 2011 to form part of the Hallelujah Choir to sing with The High Kings among others under the direction of Gearóid Grant.. There was great excitement among pupils, staff and parents as this was to be our first experience of Hallalujah.. A large collection of songs had to be learnt and CDs were copied for all and songs from some time ago as well as more modern ones were soon being sung at home and in cars as well as at school.. Hallelujah T-shirts were ordered, concert tickets reserved, a bus booked and before we knew it we were on our way to the RDS.. A great day was enjoyed by all and the concert was an experience that all will undoubtedly remember for many years to come..

    Descriptive info: Raising the Green Flag !.. On Thursday, 25th June, 2009 pupils, parents and staff assembled in glorious sunshine for the raising of the recently awarded second Green Flag.. The flag was presented in recognition of the tremendous work done in the school community over the last two years in creating an awareness of the importance of Energy conservation.. The flag was raised by outgoing 6th class pupils Marie O'Dea and Sophie Drew O'Shea to the applause of all present.. Further details of Green Schools activities can be viewed on our.. Green Schools.. page.. Awards Ceremony 2010.. Before closing for the summer holidays many of the school's 44 pupils were presented with awards for various achievements during the past school year.. Attendance awards were presented to Sean O'Dwyer, Jake O'Riordan, Aislinn O'Dea, Nicole Kenny and Shane Dwane.. Sports awards were received by Merissa Bermingham Sheehan, Sean O'Dwyer, Rian O'Dea and Eoghan O'Dea.. The recipients of the Art/Music/Drama awards were Grace Holmes, Killian Ryan, Jade Mullane and Yvonne O'Dea.. Pupil of the Year awards were presented to Robyn O'Shea Niamh O'Dea of the Junior classroom and to Nicole Kenny Stephen O'Dea of the Senior classroom.. Special Centenary Awards were presented to the 6th class pupils Caoimhe O'Dea, Méabh McCarthy and Sarah Miller for bringing fame to the school as a result of their successful participation in the test The teachers TV programme as well as their various achievements in drama, storytelling, quizzes and sports activities during their time in Cloverfield NS.. Sports For All Day.. Cloverfield NS's annual Sports for All Day was held in late June and the 44 pupils present were divided into various colour-coded teams for the day.. Each team had boys and girls from all class levels and a great day was enjoyed as children worked together on a variety of tasks, games and activities including hurling, soccer, spikeball, races, treasure hunt, co-operation games.. Each pupil was presented with a certificate and refreshments were served to all who were tired but happy at the end of the day.. This object require JavaScript enabled.. INTO/EBS Handwriting Competition.. The teachers and pupils of Cloverfield NS take great pride in their handwriting  ...   fun is had in listening to stories as pupils are selected to represent the school in the Honey Fitz Theatre.. 2008's storytellers were 2nd class duo Robbie and Eoghan who greatly impressed both audience and adjudicator with their story of Oisín in Tír na nÓg.. 6th class pupil Marie was the Senior entrant and her dramatic telling of The Boy Who Had Knowledge was a sure winner! In October, 2009, our storytellers once again made their way with family, friends and teacher to the Honey Fitz Theatre in Lough Gur.. 2nd class pupils Niamh O'Dea and Niamh Hayes told their story entitled Niamh with great enthusiasm and expression.. 6th class Méabh McCarthy told The Boy Who Had No Story and was declared the winner of the senior category of the competition at the end of a very entertaining evening.. October, 2010 saw 6th class pupil Alan Dwane take to the stage with his story The Fool and the Feather Mattress.. Well done to all our scéalaithe !.. Board Game Playing.. This popular activity has now become an annual event when pupils all spend part of the school day playing favourite board games.. The children bring in games of their choice as well as choosing from the ever-growing selection of games in the school's two classrooms.. Not only do children learn how to play and enjoy a variety of games, they also learn to take turns, share and co-operate.. The games are also great favourites during rainy day lunch breaks.. Safer Cycling Initiative.. 22 pupils from Second to Sixth classes had the opportunity to participate in the Safer Cycling Initiative with the support of Limerick County Council and the Road Safety Authority.. A day long's programme was enjoyed by the pupils who were trained by 2 visiting tutors.. Each pupil received a quality helmet to keep at the end of the day.. Halloween Party.. As a pre Mid-term treat the Parents' Association organises an annual Halloween party for all pupils on the last Friday in October each year.. Costumes,face-painting, games, music and treats are the order of the day, and as our photos show clearly shows, a great time is enjoyed by all!..

    Descriptive info: Cloverfield NS celebrates the arrival of the third green flag in the school following the work done on the Water theme over the last few years.. The news that we were to be awarded our third flag came following an assessment visit by Sean Hartigan who was very impressed with the pupils' knowledge and interest in the water theme.. Many activities during the year including a visit to the Mulkear river and a study of river life, lots of art work, research, etc.. helped the children to develop a very good understanding of the theme.. Green school committee members Dylan Holmes, Brian O'Grady and Shannon McCarthy were selected to accompany Mrs O'Dea to the awards ceremony held in the Silver Springs Hotel, Cork.. A big end-of-year party is planned when the new flag will be raised!.. Energy Green Flag Award.. Principal Noreen O'Dea and Marie O'Dea,6th Class and Nicole Kenny, 2nd Class, travelled to the Lifetime Lab in Cork at the end of May, 2009 where they were presented with the school's 2nd Green Flag.. The whole school community is delighted that the flag has been renewed as it is a great honour to have this international award flying outside one's school.. The school was presented with its 2nd green flag for continuing the great work being done in the area of Litter and Waste and for the tremendous work done in the area of Energy.. This involved educating not only the pupils but the staff, parents and wider community about the necessity to conserve Energy and to move towards the use of renewable sources of Energy where possible.. The pupils developed the school's motto Show the Earth you care, Be Energy aware!  ...   in green lunches and worked on several green programmes during the course of the school day.. We are now working towards maintaining our flag by learning about Energy and implementing and adapting Energy-saving habits.. Keep Cloverfield clean.. And a flag will soon be seen!.. Energy Awareness.. As we worked towards our second Green Flag, we focused on the theme of Energy.. As we followed the seven steps of the programme, we strove to develop an ever-growing awareness of the need to save energy, to reduce energy consumption and endeavoured to deliver this message to the wider community outside the school.. Our activities were many and varied and include lessons in many subject areas, poster-making, motto/rhyme writing, sign design as well as putting together a booklet entitled 30 Ways To Help The Earth , for distribution in the community.. (Click on the globe to download a copy!).. Our new Green Code was.. Show the Earth you care,.. Be Energy Aware!.. During the 2007/08 school year pupils from 3rd to 6th classes attended an Energy Workshop in the Dooradoyle Library where they learned lots about types of energy, the properties of energy, renewable/non-renewable energy sources, saving of energy, etc.. The interactive workshop held by SEI was both informative and enjoyable and pupils enjoyed the entertaining presentations, games and experiments.. If the journey's not far.. Don't take the car!.. Switch off the lights.. When it is bright.. Change to CFLs today.. In the long run less you'll pay!.. Go green and protect our planet.. The future is in our hands.. Together we can make a difference!..

  • Title: Discovery Science
    Descriptive info: Science is a great favourite among the pupils in the school and participation in the DPS programme ensures that there is always plenty of activity and lots of experimental work being carried out.. Pupils and staff of Cloverfield NS were delighted to be again presented with a Discover Primary Science award of excellence for the 2007/08 school year.. The school first received the award in June 2006.. Principal Noreen O'Dea and four of the pupils went along to the award ceremony at the Clarion Hotel, Limerick in June.. All pupils in the school were presented with certificates for their participation and achievement.. We hosted a Science  ...   why certain things happen.. All were proud of their exhibits and gladly talked about them to the visitors.. The exhibition was a great success and a report of the day formed part of our Discovery Log.. We made some paper helicopters and tested them in the classroom.. We observed them as they spun to the ground and tested both small and large helicopters.. We also made some from different types of card and paper and let them fall from different heights.. We worked in pairs to discover our blind spots.. It was fun and a bit eerie when the black dot seemed to disappear for an instant..
