  • Title: Why Vote for Me? | Eamonn Zaidan - Independent Candidate for Dublin South
Descriptive info: Why Vote for Me?.. Sunday, 09 January 2011 12:18.. Wednesday, 16 February 2011 05:35.. If enough Independents group together with the above principles, this will happen.. They will not be under the ‘whip’ system and therefore will not be silenced nor muted.. The Phoenix arose again, just like we as a nation, will rise once again from the rubble that has been left by the last administration.. I believe in our Republic but our very democracy has been eroding since the 2004 Presidential election (whip system stopped both TD’s AND Councils from nominating anyone and ALL parties were complicit in this) and more so in the last two years, FF/GP had NO  ...   for NAMA, the bank guarantee scheme, ANGLO, etc….. I Eamonn Zaidan earnestly believe in the above with the exception of 01 02 and pledge to pursue the remaining above mentioned points (and there are many many more!) in earnest.. I also pledge to reduce my salary if elected by 50%.. If you are in agreement with most of the above, are disillusioned with our current political structure, a floating voter, then I urge you to let me be your first choice in this election.. It’s time for change and you have the power at the ballot box….. This entry was posted on Sunday, January 9th, 2011 at 12:18 and is filed under..

  • Title: About Me | Eamonn Zaidan - Independent Candidate for Dublin South
Descriptive info: About Me.. Friday, 07 January 2011 00:21.. Wednesday, 09 March 2011 16:27.. Admin.. 12 Comments.. DOB: 1966.. Place of birth: Old Coombe Hospital, Dublin 8.. Born in the Liberties and six months later I was whisked off to Sierra Leone, West Africa until the age 4 until my mother became homesick and we returned home and moved back into the Liberties.. Led a pretty much ordinary childhood, and then moved to Shankill county Dublin where I attended St Laurence College in Loughlinstown.. I did pretty ok in school and by the time I was leaving school, (83), things were not going to well for dad and I ended up going out to work to help with the family, as my elder sister (Now a teacher of Domestic Science in Scotland) and my brother (Now a lecturer in DIT) were both attend 3rd Level college.. So off I went to work and did pretty well for myself, learning about life and becoming street smart.. In my first job, I had the most business savvy mentor with whom I learned most of my business acumen from.. I stayed with that firm for just over 10 years.. I remember him telling me that if I went to a bank and asked for a loan of €1000 they would politely show me the door, but if I went in and asked for €10,000,000 I would be brought out and wined and dined.. A valuable lesson from the 80’s that rings so true over the last few years.. Just to point out he wasn’t a developer, just a very smart businessman.. His business was IT.. I then moved onto my second major job which lasted a total of 5 years, I excelled at my job eventually becoming one of their sales managers, this was an American IT company who in the 90’s thought it best to move the most profitable unit out of Ireland and let the UK parent company absorb the unit thereby reducing costs whilst maximising profits.. Yes we were all offered jobs in the UK, I declined as I had a mortgage to pay off… However, their move backfired a bit by having 17% of the market share of our industry and I believe that it fell to under 5%, so much for maximising profits!.. At 35 I moved into a similar IT industry but fate gave me a reminder of how fragile we all are, I suffered two heart attacks and was let go by the company that hired me and had no comeback as I was only there circa 9 months! Oh well, another lesson learned….. A year later I went into a pretty young start-up company that was in total disarray when I arrived but the workload was small which suited my condition at that time.. Eventually, I went one step further and took up the role of being the company administrator and office manager.. Again my industry was IT related.. I helped this company out of the doldrums and they eventually got taken over by another American outfit.. In saying that, I made the owners of that company quite wealthy, but as things go and with the economic downturn, I was made redundant.. I’m sort of giving you a CV about me, because I know questions are being asked of me and who I am and what ‘credentials’ I have to run for office.. I believe I am more than qualified that some of the outgoing TD’s as I have actually worked in real life and I do not have any other profession or business to fall back on, I make my own way through life, I have taken on complaints with a considerable number of companies and have had a success rate of 97%, and no, I am not Victor Meldrew either! I just stand up for what I believe in.. I did put my name into the hat for our last Presidential election, not for the fun of it, but to prove a point that our main parties were more interested in an upcoming bye-election and all united just to keep the incumbent in which I thought was an affront to our democracy.. The whips from all these parties even extended to County Councils thereby eliminating any chance of a contest.. Our President who is elected by the people for the people had been hijacked by all the main parties in Dail Eireann and I wrote to them all expressing my view.. One TD from Mayo broke ranks and that  ...   salary if elected and the remainder would go to local constituency projects, e.. g.. New School Computer needed etc… If elected, There is an Independent’s payment which I would forfeit 100% and put back into local constituency projects.. This payment is worth €40,000 per annum.. As I stated earlier, actions speak louder than words….. If you require any further clarification on my answers, please do not hesitate to contact me.. Kind regards,.. 25-02-2011, 12:09.. Hey,.. I just wanted to thank everyone that has emailed me, questioned me and generally engaged with me during this short GE11 campaign.. Elected or not, this site will stay open and hopefully we can start a discussion forum going in relation to both local and national matters.. As I have told people, I am not a one trick pony.. I would especially like to thank Mr Liam O Shea who set me up with a wonderful website at such short notice.. Let us hope that Independents have begun a process whereby Government is both transparent accountable.. Eamonn Zaidan.. 04-03-2011, 18:24.. Well there is one of my policies going through, the ESB has finally been deregulated, hopefully leading to cheaper prices for both businesses and home consumers.. • Title: Essay (and my subsequent reply): “Why ‘Looney Left’? An Apology for Socialists” by FEZZIWIG | Eamonn Zaidan - Independent Candidate for Dublin South
Descriptive info: Monday, 14 February 2011 14:51.. Dear Representatives,.. Attached is my essay Why Looney Left ? An Apology for Socialists for you perusal, if convenient.. (Download.. Here.. ).. Please note that I am not affiliated with any political party and that while the views expressed are my own I don t believe they are peculiar to me.. I firmly believe they are shared by most Irish people who profess any modicum of intelligence.. I would appreciate any feedback.. Fezziwig.. ____________________________________________________________________________________________.. From: info@eamonnzaidan.. To: fezziwig.. Subject: RE: Why Looney Left ? An Apology for Socialists.. Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2011 22:51:11 +0000.. Dear Fezziwig,.. Again thank you for affording me the opportunity to read and respond on your essay.. The main theme I picked up on your piece is fear.. Unfortunately, our electorate has been subject to fear for many years, the biggest one that springs to mind was the second referendum for the Lisbon Treaty, as by the time that came around, world economic downturns had been coming into play.. The left opposed the second referendum as did I, but the main political parties told a fearful electorate that we would not ‘be in the heart of Europe’, we would lose FDI, we would lose jobs and the list went on as well you know.. When we gave the correct answer, what has happened? We have started to lose FDI, we now have 450,000 unemployed, emigration is on the rise again (I already worked and lived through the 80’s crisis), minimum wage has been cut, the EU gave DELL a grant of circa €232M for new facilities in Poland, everything has happened that the ‘loons’ said would happen.. Have we had an apology, a statement acknowledging that a mistake was made, no, quite the opposite, we have not heard one jot from either the media or our politicians.. Fear was the tactic that won the day.. Fear is being used again if we did not accept the EU/IMF bailout even though we were ‘fully financed until June 2011’, yet in November 2010, FF/GP entered into negations with same said parties to explore our options.. When it was decided that we were going to accept a bailout, I to this day cannot comprehend why both Labour and Fine Gael did not resign en masse from Dail Eireann and demand that a general election be called immediately as FF/GP did not have the right to tie the hands of the future Government.. Now that some are calling for separation of Sovereign Debt and Bank debt, by using fear, we are being told how harsh our lives would be, no money in the ATM’s, yet Denmark just recently let a bank go under and nothing changed.. Our current politicians have only made it worse for its own citizens.. I agree with the separation of both, why should any taxpayer have to pay a gamblers losses to put it simply.. They gamble/speculate, they lose, they move on, simple as….. In fairness,  ...   I was money motivated, I could say to you I lost over €65K per annum as a result, but boy was I happy! Just a note to reinforce that – and without trying to sound like pitching my table for a sale – I have already pledged a 50% reduction in my salary if elected, with the remaining 50% going to local community projects.. With regards to the left and I target both Labour and the Greens, they seem to have abandoned their core principles, the Greens more so.. I for one do not consider myself a loon, but rational and caring and you have made those allusions in your piece.. In saying that, there are both extreme Right and Left, neither to which have I subscribed to.. Ireland PLC is now slowly heading for bankruptcy and who will suffer, the very people who did not create the mess but they must endure the hardship because of mistakes of our political elite.. We need to take stock of ourselves and ask why did this happen, did I play a part in what happened, etc… when this self analysis is done, then I think the majority of the electorate will realise who is to blame….. I enjoyed reading your essay.. Ph: +353 86 3355 342.. EMail: eamonn@eamonnzaidan.. Web: http://www.. eamonnzaidan.. From:fezziwig@.. Sent: 13 February 2011 23:54.. To: info@eamonnzaidan.. Dear Eamonn,.. Thank you for your considered reply.. You passion comes through loud and clear.. If you revisit what I say about money being a motivator you ll find that your views and mine concur completely.. What really motivates people (once they earn enough to live with dignity and therefore don t have to worry about where the next meal is coming from) is satisfaction, autonomy, mastery and purpose.. If I fell ill, I wouldn t wish to be cared for by the consultant who earns six times times average industrial wage who conceivably entered the profession attracted by the obscene renumeration; I d prefer the person who actually loves medicine and has a heartfelt desire to help people; to contribute to the betterment of his/her fellow citizens ( I can t bring myself to say fellowmen).. I ve just visited your site and read everything.. You think exactly as I do ( on every point!) and as I earnestly hope most intelligent people do.. I only wish I was in your constituency to give you my number one vote.. All I can say is that your passion and integrity do you honour and I am sure that they will be absolutely apparent to anyone talking to you.. Keep strong and stick to your principles.. We desperately need more independent thinkers like you in government.. There are no checks and balances and as we all know, no accountability.. It is maddening!.. The very best of luck for the 25 th.. I heartily wish you well.. This entry was posted on Monday, February 14th, 2011 at 00:29 and is filed under..

Descriptive info: Why I don t want your donations.. Sunday, 13 February 2011 22:13.. With regards to my campaign, I have decided not to accept any donations small or large.. Part of my reason lies with the fact that I would like to see a ban on all corporate donations and partly driven by the fact that I  ...   not going with the established methods and also to prove the obstacles placed in front of Independents and the lack of media coverage, it is like we do not matter, yet most of us are the ones who care the most! Descriptive info: Monday, 14 February 2011 09:09.. I am knocking on door with my own two feet and not enlisting anyone to campaign on my behalf, this I believe is how contests should be fought and won, not by how much one has.. I also decided not to take advantage of the free postage scheme afforded to candidates whereby I would be entitled to send one mailing to 96,834 constituents in my area, by that action alone, I have saved the taxpayer (you) a whopping €53,258.. I am not putting up posters to litter lampposts, so ask yourself one question here…  ...   earth can I put on a poster bar a mug-shot, I feel they should be banned from elections altogether, because you won’t see details of what I stand for there.. Also, are we down do voting on looks or policies?.. I will have some postcard style flyers being handed out at shopping centres and the like, but I won’t be in your face about it either! You have the choice to listen to what I have to say and the choice to walk away.. This entry was posted on Sunday, February 13th, 2011 at 22:13 and is filed under..
