  • Title: Aisling Quinn: Let The Games Begin | Entertainment Architects – Music PR Ireland
Descriptive info: For some people music is a hobby, for others it’s a way of life.. For others it’s a series of incomprehensible squiggles on a page of sheet music.. For Aisling Quinn it’s about using the inner squiggle.. “There is a unique note each person has inside them- like an inner squiggle.. The challenge is to capture it and let it out!”.. Born in Galway, Aisling spent her formative years devouring music, without prejudice to particular styles or genres.. Their home was full of instruments and Quinn was tinkering on pianos and strumming guitars for as long as she can remember.. Piano was the first instrument Aisling learnt formally but like most teenagers, the discipline to practice escaped her.. “I always felt the piano was like a close friend but it’s hard to stay friends with someone when you have to pass an exam on them every year.. So, inspired by jazz and blues albums from the 30’s and 40’s and her mum’s Carole King LPs, Aisling decided to go down a more laid- back style of jamming, teaching herself as she went rather than being penned in by formal, structured lessons.. Her curiosity and love of sounds led her to pick up many other instruments such as mandolin, flute, violin, bodhran, melodica and xylophone.. Aisling steadily began settling into her musical skin.. In 2002, she embarked on the next step of her musical adventure when she moved to Dublin to begin a music production course in order to gain a better understanding of the technical side of the industry.. In 2007, she released her first EP.. A  ...   love of the theatre, Aisling’s focus was really always very much on creating and establishing her own musical identity and since the release of the debut EP, she had been gathering a collection of songs with a view to releasing a record.. “I felt, musically, I had my own unique point of view so the challenge was to achieve something whole and complete, artistically, with this album, for myself in the first instance, and then hopefully for other people to enjoy.. Assembling some of Ireland’s finest session musicians, Aisling settled herself into Jam Studios, Kells, Co Meath, working with co-producer Martin Quinn.. The end result is.. Let The Games Begin,.. a collection of eleven beautifully crafted songs, packed with colour, personality, melody and an endearing vulnerability.. Quinn’s quirky and energetic take on pop, jazz, folk and blues is worth multiple listens.. “Carol King, Nick Drake, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Joni Mitchell, Ed Harcourt, Merz, Aimee Mann they’re all floating around there somewhere bumping into each other, and saying hello!.. ”.. Let The Games Begin.. was released in.. May, 2011.. In 2009, the track ‘When You Come’ achieved a semi final position in the ISC (International Songwriting Competition).. www.. songwritingcompetition.. com.. , a prestigious US based competition that recognises new songwriting talent from across the world.. And just recently, it was announced that her track ‘Song I Wrote For You’ also achieved a semi-final position in the ISC 2010.. Judges included Tom Waits, Rhianna, Jeff Beck, Robert Smith, Jerry Lee Lewis and a host of industry names.. Both tracks feature on the debut album.. aislingquinn.. myspace.. com/aislingquinn.. wordpress.. com/home/..

  • Title: Beady Eye: Different Gear, Still Speeding | Entertainment Architects – Music PR Ireland
Descriptive info: “Music, it’s all about the music, we could all have sat at home after Oasis split but what would have been the point of that.. We had a couple of weeks off and then we were back in the studio demo-ing.. We’re musicians, it’s what we do, it’s how we define ourselves.. ”.. That’s.. Andy Bell.. , one of the two guitarists in.. Beady Eye,.. explaining why the band had to happen.. “We love music,”.. enthuses.. Liam Gallagher.. , Beady Eye’s lead singer.. “We’ve got these songs, we go in and we do them.. We’re fired up, not because we thought we’d show everyone it could happen without you know who [.. ], we’re fired up because we’re doing music.. And with the line-up completed by second guitarist Gem Archer and drummer Chris Sharrock, and with producer Steve Lillywhite [.. The La’s, Morrissey, U2.. ] also in tow, Beady Eye entered London’s RAK Studios back in June and over 12 weeks put down what Gem calls,.. “the best thing I’ve ever been involved in.. “It was important not to sit and dwell on the past,”.. says.. Liam.. “We’d just come off an Oasis tour and we were on fire, if we’d said, ‘let’s do something in a few months, or next year’, the flame would have burned out or we’d have got the fear.. ” “It’s the best way to do it,”.. says Gem,.. “straight off the back of a load of gigs.. And the results are nothing short of astonishing.. Thirteen songs that are loud, vibrant, exhilarating.. It’s raw rock’n’roll one minute, and classic pop the next from the raucous.. Jerry Lee Lewis.. and Stones inspired Bring The Light to the Merseybeat wonder of For Anyone, to the stomping T-Rex glam of The Roller to the pounding Millionaire and Four Letter Word.. It sounds like a debut record by a band just starting out with a huge appetite for music, and despite individually all having made records for two decades or more as Chris Sharrock says,.. “that’s exactly what it is.. “Some of the songs go back a few years and some are brand new,”.. explains.. Andy.. “We got in RAK, and it was all exciting and new.. We’d never been in there before and recording in Studio 1 was amazing.. There are always new things to find out.. I’ve never learned so much as I did this time.. ” “We had the songs almost in order of how we wanted the album to play out as well,”.. adds.. Gem.. “It was pretty well prepped.. We were that committed.. “And we were buzzing, confident, we were going in to enjoy it and have fun,”.. Influences are unsurprisingly worn affectionately on sleeves: there’s even a song called Beatles And Stones.. “Yeah, the Stones were a big one on this record,”.. “We were listening to them a lot.. We don’t go off road and say, ‘let’s make a fucking Captain Beefheart record’, this is what we do.. “The La’s are a big one too,” says Andy,.. “they are one of the greatest bands, a musical touchstone.. ” “And sometimes,”.. adds Gem,.. “rather than trying to describe what you want something to sound like, it’s easier to say, you know that line in that record, I want it to sound like that.. The Stones’s Child Of The Moon came up once or twice, Little Richard too.. One song called The Beat Goes On, written by.. , is redolent of prime Hollies, it’s beautiful, melodic, strong.. “Songs were initially written individually,”.. says Andy,.. “but then we all worked on them, added bits here and there.. It was Gem who turned this one around.. ” “The thing is,”.. “we can say which songs we each wrote but they are actually all of our songs, that’s how we do it, they’re all our tunes.. Songs were put down live for the most part to capture the moment, the spontaneity, the energy.. “Steve Lillywhite was good at getting us to play live, to get things down in three or four takes,”.. says Andy.. “We did a lot with live vocals,”..  ...   work on our own music, it’s time to get the tunes on and have a bit of a night, it’s an ever rolling thing.. The actual songs came blissfully quick.. “It was one shot at demoing it, one shot at recording it, one shot at mixing it and there it is,”.. “We’ve been lucky,”.. says Liam.. “There’s not one that’s come a cropper, they all instantly sounded great.. There was nothing on which we had to roll our sleeves up on.. It was, ‘this is fucking great, next one.. ’”.. And their enthusiasm for the new stuff is unquantifiable.. “Hearing the Beady Eye album blasting out of the stereo makes me feel Godlike,”.. beams Andy.. “.. It makes me want to smash things up.. “It’s stupid really, but it’s fucking amazing listening to it,”.. “it feels so unbelievably great.. It definitely brings the child like qualities out in you.. I can’t wait until we bring something else out so we’ve got something new to listen to.. ” “I’ve had some of the best nights of my life listening to this record already,”.. adds Liam.. “If we’d have video-ed some nights round people’s houses listening to it, it would be like fucking Quadrophenia.. Of course people are going to hold up the Beady Eye record against the Oasis canon and compare.. For many that pressure would have been too much.. “It wasn’t scary,”.. “because we kept it really close to our chests, no one still knows what’s going on, the maddest thing now is to think that in a month or two it’s going to go out into the world and people’s heads are going to be pickled hearing all these new songs that they’ve not heard before, it will be like, ‘What was that? Help!’ Coming to see us live, they’ll recognise our faces but it will be all new tunes.. “And that’s the beauty, to have the unknown.. It’s a joy,”.. says Gem.. The plan is simple: make an impact by releasing three singles then the album then go out and play non stop.. The touring band will see the core four joined by Jeff Wootton on bass and Matt Jones on keyboards.. “There was never any fear with Oasis,”.. says Liam,.. “You knew people were going to dig it because it was Oasis.. But I’ll be honest, when the gigs come round with Beady Eye, we’ll be shitting it, because it’s a new thing.. We’ve been rehearsing the live set for the last two weeks though and it’s sounding great.. The template for Beady Eye is the same one we had for early Oasis.. Put out a lot of great singles not on the album with great B-sides, keep it flowing.. What happened with Oasis was you’d end up on an 18 month world tour and you wouldn’t have any time to put new music out.. When you get big, it slows you down.. When you start out fresh, it’s all about the tunes.. And remember, we’re a new band, we’re not going to get above ourselves and start thinking we can play stadiums and arenas, we don’t want to jump the gun, we want to go out and do small gigs, get back into that vibe then do another album, and take it gradually, stay in the moment of being a new band.. “If Oasis was Muhammad Ali, then Beady Eye are Sugar Ray Leonard,”.. “We just want people to dig us, for Beady Eye to have an energy, to have wind in its sails, to keep on rockin’.. It’s not about the big numbers, the months of touring, the size of the crowd.. It’s a lot more instant and who knows what’s going to happen.. ” “We’re not bothered about chart success, but this deserves to be massive,”.. “And it’s exciting not knowing what’s going to happen, but we know it’s good enough to change people’s lives, we hope it does.. “The mission never changes,”.. concludes Gem,.. “if you’re not feeling it put it down.. And that day has never come and I don’t see it coming for a long time..

  • Title: Bipolar Empire: Feel That You Own It | Entertainment Architects – Music PR Ireland
Descriptive info: While at the OXEGEN music festival, Ireland in 2007, friends Shane, Joe and Callum decided they wanted to.. BE.. on stage – not in front of it and thus Bipolar Empire was born! They approached Mark Maguire, a talented guitarist, songwriter and longtime friend – and Bipolar Empire became a quartet.. Their folk-infused rock’n’ roll sound and tight stage performances swiftly began to win fans – and as the live shows developed so did their fanbase.. Last year, the band were fortunate enough to win a Hot Press competition to find an unsigned band to play the 2010 St.. Patrick’s Day Festival in Trafalgar Square alongside Kila , John Spillane The Coronas.. The boys wowed the massive London crowd – with the prestigious slot winning them lots of UK fans! They then went on to perform at Oxegen, a dream come true, playing to a packed out 2FM Hot Press Academy Stage.. Driven by the momentum of a fantastic summer, the band finished recording their debut album, co-produced by legendary Pat McCarthy (REM, Madonna, U2, Counting Crows) and Lance Hogan (music producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with some of the industry s top names: U2, Sinead O Connor, Kíla, Dead Can Dance, Horslips, The Dubliners).. The first single to be taken from their debut album ‘Feel That You Own It’ was the outrageously catchy track ‘Tempomanic’.. It was released in October 2010 and was quickly chosen to be the soundtrack  ...   with pounding beats, thumping basslines, soaring guitars and the unmistakable voice of Shane O’Reilly.. The band have been working hard all summer, playing festivals all over the country – and also being asked to play at the London Feis – alongside musical heroes Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Christy Moore and Horslips, to name a few!.. Crowd favourite ‘Trip Around The World’ was the third single to be taken from the album and was released on July 8 – the eve of their second Oxegen performance!.. com/watch?v=JTerhD9azdg.. The band took to the 2FM Hot Press stage again to a happy crowd of revellers, singing their songs back to them!.. This band are one to watch – but don’t just take our word for it.. What the critics say:.. it would take a brave soul indeed not to wager on Bipolar Empire following fellow Dubliners The Script into the big league.. This is a band to watch.. Irish Independent.. “Hotly tipped as one of the new Irish groups most likely to make it big on the international scene.. Their debut album… is simply a knockout.. Sunday World.. “Not since the heyday of U2… has there been an Irish band that has so unashamedly taken it to the audience rather than the other way around”.. Descriptive info: “Davey has long had an ear for commercial pop and.. The Nameless.. boasts an uncommonly high number of infectious tunes…”.. Irish Independent * * * *.. “Her third album establishes her as one of our finest musicians….. An album to hum along with for the rest of the year and beyond”.. Irish Times * * * *.. is Davey’s finest , most coherent work to date.. Irish Examiner * * * *.. is a blissful affair”.. Metro CD OF THE WEEK * * * *.. strolls just short of an hour, taking the listener’s hand through a rather complex labyrinth that defies categorisation.. As a result it’s bigger, bolder and more expansive than previous efforts.. ” ‘.. Sunday Tribune CD OF THE WEEK 4/5.. “Her third album is her crowning glory: a collection of pitch-perfect, novel compositions of breathtaking scope and variety”.. Sunday Business Post * * * * *.. “With 2007’s.. Tales of Silversleeve.. , Cathy Davey found her voice.. Now she’s found her sound, a sort of quasi-classical sci-fi folk-pop underpinned by a bit of burlesque bump and grind.. Hot Press * * * *.. Irish singer-songwriter Cathy Davey delivered a triple-crown result when she released her album The Nameless in May of 2010, debuting in poll position on the Irish Album Charts, the Independent Release Charts and the iTunes Charts on its first week of release.. Taking the Number One spot is a huge achievement for any artist, but a particularly inspiring accomplishment for a young, independent Irish musician, creating and releasing a self-funded body of work.. Cathy is a Number One selling Irish artist, a Meteor Ireland Music Award winner and is now twice nominated for the Choice Music Prize, in 2007 for Tales of Silversleeve and most recently for the 2010 Awards for The Nameless.. is Cathy’s third album.. Cathy was born in Dublin, and grew up in Monkstown.. She found her way into music almost accidentally.. She was signed by Parlophone s Regal Recordings after a batch of home-recorded demos caused a bit of a stir, and played her first live date shortly thereafter.. Spirited away to a studio in Wales, she set to work on her debut album with producer Ben Hillier, who d previously worked with Elbow and Blur.. The result,.. Something Ilk.. , was a gorgeous collection of songs both sultry and sweet, with melodies that soared and guitars that buzzed, drawing comparisons to PJ Harvey and all those other female songwriters that female songwriters often seem to draw comparisons to.. At any rate, most of these comparisons fell by the wayside with time, as Cathy managed to wriggle out of the indie-rock role that Parlophone had given her.. She d never felt comfortable  ...   would win Cathy a Choice Music Prize nomination and the Meteor Award for Best Irish Female.. The Irish Times saying There s no better female songwriter in Irish music right now.. Silversleeve.. achieved for her a place in the Irish Times top ten Albums of the Decade the only woman and the only Irish artist to feature there.. would go on to achieve double-platinum status and accompanying it Cathy undertook an astonishing run of two and half years of sold-out shows.. In 2008, at just the right time, the record industry underwent something of a crisis, and EMI dropped much of its roster.. Cathy found herself suddenly granted the independence she had been seeking, and immediately began work on new material.. Retreating to France for a month with a couple of suitcases packed with equipment, and knowing little French, she found herself recording in a setting that would come to influence the songs in unexpected ways.. Having spent many nights in a quiet old house belonging to a quiet old widow, she came home with a handful of joyful songs about love, absence and death, and declared:.. is grand.. But I ll do better next time.. She s been true to her word.. has more of Cathy s personality in it than any of her previous work, and the effect is astonishing.. There s a darkness here that is more prominent than before, but it s coupled expertly with songs as fine as anything she s ever written.. Lead single.. Little Red.. is the kind of song that should be adopted as a new national anthem, if there s any justice.. A pop gem that grew out of long dark nights in that spooky old French house, it s got a soaring chorus coupled with a string section that swells and swoons.. It s a fine indicator of the songwriting heights Cathy has reached.. She s brought back members of her band too: Conor J.. O Brien has returned to play some guitar and some drums, taking a break from recording his debut album as Villagers.. Choice Music Prize winner Neil Hannon is here to lend his voice too, helping to make songs like.. Army of Tears.. grow into the best Eurovision entry that never was, with imperious violins accompanying an oddly danceable beat.. The record is full of moments of genius, moments that grab you and explain, as only great music can, how beautiful life can be.. The album, The Nameless, was released on May 7.. , 2010.. The lead single, Little Red, was released on April 23.. rd.. The second single, Army Of Tears, was released on July 16.. The Third single, ‘Dog’ was released on 22.. nd.. • Title: Dark Room Notes: We Love You Dark Matter | Entertainment Architects – Music PR Ireland
Descriptive info: Originating from the east and west of Ireland Dublin and Galway with professions as diverse as archaeology, photography and costume design,.. found each other and their true calling and became one of the freshest sounding, most exciting electro-rock outfits to spring from a burgeoning Irish music scene.. On the west coast, it began in Galway.. Many, many years ago Ronan Gaughan (Ronnie) and Rurai Ferrie (Ferrie), met, aged four, on their first day of school.. Throughout the years, while Ronnie got lost in the music of Adam and the Ants, Ferrie was doing his parents proud with his tin whistle, playing in the local hall with his brothers’ ceili band.. The advent of grunge, however, changed their young lives and plunged them into a world of rock guitars and angst; courtesy of Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins.. From there, the path was simple and they formed their first rock band the moodily named Obskure – and went on to become an intrinsic part of the Galway music scene at the time.. The band gigged regularly and played a variety of music competitions; most notable was their third place position in the 2007 BOI/Sony Music competition, following closely behind the band Freelance, who took the silver and went on to become The Thrills.. After Obskure reached its demise the boys took up the moniker of Menlo and set off for Dublin to take over the musical world.. At the same time, on the east coast, a music and photography enthusiast named Darragh Shanahan and a creative spirit called Arran Murphy were leading separate lives in Inchicore and Dalkey respectively.. Darragh first picked up a pair of drum sticks while listening to his friend’s band rehearse and fell in love with the drum kit prompting an all night vigil outside Music Maker on the eve of their half price sale.. Emerging from the store just after 9.. 30am, virgin snare in hand and twenty quid change in his pocket, drumming soon became like breathing and he quickly built up an impressive repertoire, playing in bands here and there, turning down the chance to tour Europe with a Dublin metal act and playing and recording with the usual suspects.. Arran Murphy had a very different musical upbringing a healthy diet of violin from her grandfather, a traditional fiddle player, and her grandmother, an orchestral violinist.. These influences led Arran to learn violin and piano and, after hearing a copy of Peter and the Wolf on cassette, her passion for music was sealed.. Both Darragh and Arran left Ireland for a spell of country hopping.. After a summer spent with a circus in Berlin, Arran returned home and joined trip hop indie band Coosh on keyboards, while Darragh, after an extended stint  ...   When their drummer left, Menlo were forced to put drums through a laptop, keyboards replaced basslines and the electro hook came to life.. Arriving at rehearsals one evening, Arran dropped her photography notebook on top of an amp.. The cover read ‘Dark Room Notes’.. Ferrie thought ‘cool name for a band’ and DRN were born.. Darragh was now working in the Gallery of Photography in Meeting House Square in Temple Bar, while doing a BA in photography at DIT.. Always looking for new creative outlets, he decided to set up an independent record label with friend Martin Bradley.. After a chance meeting in the Gallery, Arran invited Darragh and Martin to see DRN.. The pair went along and decided there and then that DRN would be Gonzo Records’ firstborn.. The band needed a drummer, Darragh stepped up, Dark Room Notes were complete.. Since their inception Dark Room Notes have developed a sound that is uniquely their own.. With lyricist Ronnie on vocals, Ferrie on guitars and synths, Arran on keyboards and vocals and Darragh on drums, they recorded their debut single.. Love Like Nicotine,.. an edgy electro rock thumper with a dark pop sensibility that quickly won them fans and interest from music media.. The single, released on Gonzo Records in June 2007, was bolstered by two remixes by Flood and Trixton.. In October of 2007 the band released their debut EP.. Dead Start Program.. to another wave of critical acclaim and well-received live shows.. We Love You Dark Matter.. was recorded in London in July 2008.. Determined to recreate the energy of their live performance during the recording process, the band borrowed a collection of vintage analogue synths, mics and sound processors from producers Flood and Rob Kirwan.. The foursome then spent a fortnight in studio, focusing on one track each day and performing multiple live takes until they were happy with the final outcome.. In all, ten tracks make up the debut album release.. chose to work on the album with young Dublin producer Ciaran Bradshaw, who helmed their earlier releases in 2007 the single.. Love Like Nicotine.. and the EP.. Having cut his teeth assisting numerous Irish and international producers in Grouse Lodge recording studio, Bradshaw is currently producing some of Ireland’s most exciting new music.. He has also become an integral part of the.. team, acting as live sound engineer.. Combining the binary rhythms of electro-rock with pop culture lyrics,.. are a dark, skittish persona, a tight four piece with a stylish hypnotic presence.. Bucking many trends, they have evolved since their debut outings to present a collection of intelligent and interesting electro tracks on.. Dublin-based electronic pop act.. released their debut album,.. We Love You Dark Matter,.. in.. April, 2009.. on Gonzo Records.. com/darkroomnotesireland..

This follow.. up is a confirmation that he’s an ability to create his own career.. ” Star On Sunday 8/10.. BellX1’s David Geraghty released his debut solo album.. Kill Your Darlings.. in 2007, to huge critical and fan acclaim.. The album was nominated for a Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year and in both Best Irish Album and Best Irish Male in the Meteor Ireland Music Awards.. September 2009 sees Geraghty return with his second solo offering.. The Victory Dance,.. set for release on his own imprint Decal Records.. The ten track collection was recorded in West Cork, mixed by Tim Martin (Terence Trent D’Arby, The Waterboys and Kirsty MacColl) and engineered by Greg French (U2, Van Morrison, Brian Eno and Placebo).. The Victory Dance.. was a labour of love for Geraghty, recorded in between stints in a hectic BellX1 European and US touring schedule.. “I spotted a clearing in the dense forest that is the Bell X1 tour machine”, says Geraghty, ‘so in June 2008, we retreated to a friends’ house in West Cork to begin recording.. We ended up using the old barn beside the house, which had a great vibe and the added bonus of a colony of bats, who lent us their vocals on a number of tracks.. I subsequently forgot to include the addendum that no bats were  ...   you may never have thought of sitting alone in a studio”.. Geraghty continues, “I sometimes find song writing the most lonesome and torturous process, but I look forward to introducing the new songs to the band to flesh out and have fun with.. It’s the joy and mystery at this stage that makes it all worthwhile.. It’s always fun to work with different people.. I feel too that I return to the Bell X1 table with fresh ways of approaching things.. Whoever said being in a band should be monogamous?”.. was lovingly nurtured and brought to life while Geraghty was on downtime from his BellX1 duties.. The band made five US trips in the space of twelve months to promote their fourth studio album.. Blue Lights on the Runway.. The Stateside hikes included many personal highlights for Geraghty, in particular performing at the Lilywhite Sessions in the Avatar Studios (The Power Station), a studio seeped in musical lore having hosted Lennon, Bowie and Springsteen over the years.. Geraghty also got the chance to appear on some of the biggest TV shows in the US, including The Craig Ferguson Show, The Conan O’Brien Show and the Late Show with David Letterman:.. “It was amazing but pretty daunting, especially the first time around.. Here I was, performing live on the legendary show that I’d grown up watching.. It’s a tight ship that they run in the Ed Sullivan theatre!”.. At the end of July this year, BellX1 supported U2 on one of their hometown shows in Croke Park in Dublin.. “This is it, the moment that the geography teacher was on about all those years ago.. …’oh now don’t forget us when your up there with U2 playing Croke Park’.. I can’t quite remember her name….. what was it now?”.. is available on Decal Records through ESD..
