Descriptive info: | February Slam 2012.. James Falconer.. Biography.. My name is James Falconer, 28 years old.. I am very new to the poetry scene, although I.. have always been well able to express myself! I moved to Galway about five years ago, after.. spending some time overseas.. I am originally from County Meath.. I am in my final year.. of an International Arts degree at NUIG.. My areas of study are philosophy and history.. I.. love traveling and I m happiest when I am on the move.. I hope to keep writing, performing.. and coming back.. News.. by James Falconer.. Too much news is demoralising.. Why can t we be left in peace?.. Bombarded with Sky News, BBC, RTE, ITV.. They re all much the same,  ...   Sure you have to see what s going on.. In a world, crippled with wrong.. Power and domination.. In propaganda fuelled.. Administration.. Mainstream media mind control.. Can take its toll on the human soul.. Flags and symbols, Arabic unrest.. Are some of the creations.. Of the greedy West.. It s all too much for me to bear.. Yet people stop and people stare.. Headlines, explosions, flames in the air.. Most of the time, I couldn t care.. Public spaces, colonized.. By private interests.. Sometimes I don t know, where to go.. To escape the stress.. On the run from the media machine.. Trying to keep my young mind clean.. I ll get there yet, to the safety net.. Have a look inside.. With no regret..

She was long listed in both the Over The Edge New Writer of Year Competition (2011) and the Doire Press Chapbook Competition (2012).. Lovelier.. You were lovelier than you knew.. though not so cool,.. standing with your back against the fence.. one knee bent,.. in black and white.. turing yellow with age.. your confusion.. just evident on your face.. but wild in your mind,.. you gasped and gulped.. the viscosity of pain,.. the searing heat of love,.. but you didn t give a fuck.. there was still bliss in drugs.. there was still the foolish, foolish,.. justified anger of youth.. still the stupid hatred of the men in suits.. the stupid hatred of men.. you thought  ...   you danced as if dancing,.. on the bastards grave.. and when the dancers died.. and you added their rage,.. you drank to them wildly.. and planned your revenge.. and God help those.. who got in your way.. but really you were afraid.. And in summer you traveled south,.. by road, through France.. Bringing unspeakable drugs to their youth.. bringing unspeakable truths.. and when the sun was high.. you crawled under the truck and died.. Your ideals were insane,.. but you stuck with them,.. as they marched you quickly to the grave.. but hey everyone needs a destination,.. don t they?.. and on the river raged,.. you pretended not to notice.. pretended not to care.. you never looked into your face.. and you never exhaled.. till the emptiness threatened.. to crush you.. and the next breath rushed.. to spite you..

And you know it was okay,.. everything did turn out fine.. and I didn t need anyone.. So many bus trips, and other kinds of trips.. So many highs and lows.. So much despair, and jubilation,.. and so much searching.. No stone was left unturned and.. no opportunity was spurned.. Descriptive info: | January Slam 2012.. Marteinn Örn Óskarsson.. Marteinn will be the guest reader at the February Poetry Slam which is being held in the Bank of Ireland Theatre, NUIG, as part of the annual Muscailt Festival, @ 7pm, Tuesday 7.. th.. February.. High Contrast by Marteinn Örn Óskarsson.. There s a thin line between facts and fiction, a contridiction,.. a smokescreen between what is and what isnt.. All you need to do is close your eyes and just listen,.. can you feel how your fear is beating you to submission.. You re striving to survive, praying to above,.. how can I disguise without me losing what I love ?.. You can see it in my eyes when I m standing in the booth.. that I m saying what they want me to but not speaking the truth.. Cuz I gotta feed my family.. I gotta pay the bills.. So I stifle my beliefs and give the crowd their empty thrills.. Cuz they know I got the skills to kill the crowd the way they want me  ...   the only way I know to help my family survive.. but if I had the choice I d raise the voice you bottle up inside.. Instead I babble worlds that you think you can relate to.. Cuz from the start this system taught you to escape truth.. The goal is a hole in your soul.. so the moneymen can fill you up with sex, drugs and rock n roll.. This isnt life yall, this is death,.. and if you wallow on this path it ll take away your breath.. But if I ask you, are you really listening ?.. Are you receptive, are you open, do you listen when.. I really open up and truly speak my mind,.. that I m a god-created likeness and I m not one of a kind.. You re really god, creating god s, creating everything.. but no-one seems to listen to this message that I bring.. So I stuf it all inside and tell you everything you want me to.. My family needs security and I m the one responsible..
