Representing the views and interests of geophysicists.. Since it s foundation the association has achieved the following:.. Established a web site for exchange of information.. Organised seminars:.. Applications of GPR in the Built and Natural Environment (Dublin, May 2007).. Geophysical Exploration of Ireland s Natural Resources (Dublin, May 2006).. Engineering geophysics in Ireland, (Athlone, May 2005).. Archeo-geophysics in Ireland,(Dublin, May 2004).. Hydro-geophysics in Ireland, in co-operation with the International Association of Hydrogeologists (Dublin, May 2003).. Marine Geophysical Investigations in Ireland, jointly with the Geotechnical Society of Ireland and the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain - Irish Branch (Dublin, May 2002).. The Effective use of Geophysical Methods in Ground Investigation, jointly with the Geotechnical Society of Ireland (Dublin, May 2001).. The Geophysical Characteristics of Irish Base Metal Deposits, jointly with the IAEG (Galway, May 2000).. Appointed a representative to the board of the Institute of Geologists of Ireland, who is responsible for representing the interests of geophysicists in Ireland.. Constitution adopted on the 6th June 2001.. The association shall be known as the Geophysical Association of Ireland.. The objectives of the association are to: act as a forum for technical discussion on geophysical topics; promote the effective use of geophysics; increase the standard of geophysical surveying; represent the professional views and interests of geophysicists.. Membership of the association is open to geophysicists and to those with a professional interest in geophysics..  ...   of the GAI and notice of their nomination shall be given to the Secretary at least six weeks in advance of the AGM.. Election will be by secret ballot in the event of more than the required number of nominations to any committee position.. The AGM will be held in June of each year.. At least one months notice of the AGM, nominations to the committee and the agenda will be given to members.. The committee shall meet at least 4 times yearly.. The committee will also produce yearly activity and financial reports for distribution to the membership.. The committee will appoint an auditor to review the financial accounts.. The President, Treasurer and Secretary shall serve a term of two years and shall not succeed themselves in office.. In all a committee member or officer may serve no more than four years consecutively.. The committee may co-opt additional ordinary members during the year as it sees fit subject to 8 above.. In the event of resignation of an officer during the year the committee may elect a replacement from among the existing committee members.. The committee shall set the annual subscription charge.. The constitution can be amended on a majority vote at the AGM by show of hands.. Any proposed amendments must be circulated at least 1 month in advance of the AGM or EGM.. Any member of the GAI may call an Extraordinary General Meeting of the GAI at any time if they can show the support of 25% or more of the membership in writing.. At least one months notice of an EGM and the agenda must be given to all members..
