Who We Are.. is a community based nongovernmental organization set up in 2000 by the Parish Council of St.. Mary’s Cathedral and two main churches in Killarney (Methodist and Church of Ireland), and other.. concerned individuals.. to support the first batch of asylum seekers who arrived in Killarney as part of the dispersal programme of the government.. As the work evolved and developed over the years,.. has extended its support and services to refugees, migrant workers and their families.. What We Do.. Provide a professional drop-in service for asylum seekers, refugees, migrant workers and their families;  ...   and implement various activities to include health, education / training, language support, social and inter cultural events.. Do outreach work in three direct provisions in Killarney.. Collaborate with other support / service agencies, through referrals, joint initiatives and enhance services.. Network with other statutory and non-statutory agencies, charged with asylum seeker / refugee and immigrants; share best practice and contribute to influencing policy development.. For the last ten years.. has organized several activities and initiatives to include health, education and various training workshops, language support, information sessions, awareness raising programmes, social and intercultural events.. Activities / initiatives are also put in place specifically for children and families in direct provision centre in Killarney.. Activity/Event.. Day & Time.. Other Information.. One to one and small group ‘Informal’ English classes.. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am – 12:30 pm.. Facilitated by volunteers, the programme offers space to practice reading, writing and speaking in English as well as provides ‘social’ space for participants.. Structured’ English Classes.. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 – 4:00 pm.. Basic and Intermediate levels.. Basic Computer Classes.. Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 – 3:45.. Word, Excel, Powerpoint Presentation, Internet and Broadband, Email.. After School Homework support.. Wednesday from 3 – 5 pm.. also offers a one to one support to any pupils / students who are having difficulty in school.. Please contact the centre for more information.. Various Activities for children during Christmas Holidays.. Santa visits, Swimming, Trip to the cinema.. Language and Play.. Monday  ...   It is envisioned that the participants will act as the support for their peers in direct provisions.. Mentoring Programme.. On going.. This is a pilot project aim at mentoring parents of migrant students to assist them to better understand and navigate the Irish educational system.. Cookery Demonstration.. Twice a month Will update schedule for 2011.. A fun initiative of sharing food, culinary skills and recipes, as well as provides a space for ‘informal’ interaction between local people and the new communities.. Personal Development Course for Men.. Thursday from 10 am – 1:00 pm.. Intended for men in direct provision and part of the Men’s Group initiative.. Men’s Group Meetings.. Wednesday from 7 – 9 pm.. This is initiated by a group of male asylum seekers in direct provisions and supported by two of KASI’s volunteers.. Legal and general Information sessions.. Twice a month.. Schedule varies and depends on the availability of facilitators / speakers Contact centre for up to date schedule.. ‘Social gatherings’ to celebrate Christmas.. 17th December 22nd December.. 's Community Garden Offers.. ‘Occupation’ in the form of volunteerism, especially to asylum seekers in direct provisions who are not allowed to work.. Space for informal interaction, exchange of gardening skills, knowledge, culture and FOOD between locals and asylum seeker / refugee and the migrant communities.. An opportunity for immigrants and asylum seekers who have no space for gardening to share a plot in the garden as well as the use of.. ’s poly tunnel where they can grow some of the vegetables and herbs from their own country.. Regular cookery demonstrations where everyone shares knowledge, culinary skills, recipes and food and ‘space’ for informal interaction between local people and the new communities.. Training on organic gardening and healthy eating to all volunteers and participants of the project.. Gardening is  ...   SAFEFOOD through the Demonstration Programmes of Healthy Food for All was also approved.. This is a North and South initiative and.. was one of the seven projects that are funded over a three year period.. Gardening Schedule.. Volunteers and participants meet up from..
