  • Title: Kaituna Cattery Ireland - About Us
Descriptive info: About Us.. Hello! My name is Alex and that's me in the photo with my Devon Rex cat Keisha on my shoulder! Kaituna Cattery is owned and run by myself and my husband Robbie.. We have been cat owners and admirers for many years now.. The first cats we acquired were our moggies Piggley-Pooh and Spud, who we adopted as kittens when we moved into our first house together in 2001.. Spud was semi-feral when we got him, and it took about 3 months for him to trust us and come out of hiding from under the couch!.. Over the years I have been involved with animals in numerous ways.. I have volunteered for several animal charities and rescues in the past, including at the.. ISPCA.. centre in Longford.. More recently we have become involved in cat showing and at some stage we would like to become breeders of quality show and pet Devon Rex cats.. We acquired our first pedigree cat, a Devon Rex called Keisha in 2006.. Keisha is now an International Premier and a.. TICA.. Supreme Grand Champion Alter (SGCA)! Soon after, we adopted our second Devon Rex called Squeek.. She has just become an  ...   a dream of mine for a very long time.. As a cat owner myself, I have often had to use a boarding cattery when going on holiday, and unfortunately I am often disappointed by the standard of catteries available in Ireland.. This gave me the idea to set up and run a boarding cattery myself.. I spent many months researching the idea and finally applied for and was granted planning permission for a cattery at our home in December 2007.. After several months of hard work the boarding cattery finally opened for limited bookings in August 2008.. In June 2009 we opened some additional boarding units just in time for the Summer season.. We still have a small amount of work to be completed and a few improvements to make, but my hope is that we will eventually have the best boarding cattery in the area.. Our priority is to provide a safe, comfortable and quiet environment for your cat so that you can have complete peace of mind when you go on holiday.. So if you're planning a holiday this year, consider Kaituna Cattery - we aim to be the.. purrfect.. home from home for your cats!..

  • Title: Kaituna Cattery Ireland - Facilities
Descriptive info: The first phase of the cattery consists of 5 double units, 1 family unit, and 1 isolation unit; giving us capacity for up to 14 cats at any one time.. The double units sleep up to 2 cats and the family unit sleeps 4 cats comfortably.. All units meet the minimum size requirements set down by the.. Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB).. The cattery buildings are of timber construction, with each unit incorporating a raised penthouse-style sleeping area and a spacious enclosed run.. For cold weather we have heating available in each unit, as well as heated beds for particularly cold nights, or for those cats needing extra heat (e.. g.. Sphynx).. All food is provided, and we feed only high-quality natural diets.. A selection of both dry and wet cat foods are available which should satisfy even the fussiest eaters.. If your cat is on a prescription diet or has other special requirements, we would ask that you provide any special foods and we will be happy to feed this according to your instructions.. Scratching boards and toys are provided to  ...   low volumes during certain periods of the day.. All of the units are accessed via a safety corridor which reduces the risk of any cat escaping when people are entering or leaving the cattery.. Each unit is fitted with sneeze barriers to prevent the spread of infection from one cat to another.. In addition, according to.. FAB.. recommendations, we also have an isolation unit available so that on the rare occasion that a cat does become unwell, he/she can be separated from the other cats if necessary.. The units are cleaned daily using a combination of veterinary recommended cleaners and, where possible, natural based cleaning products that are proven to have effective antibacterial/antiviral/anti-fungal properties.. We can avail of a 24 hour vet on call service when needed, and are located less than 5 minutes away from our local veterinary clinic.. The cattery has full planning permission and is covered by public liability insurance.. As of July 2008, our cattery is a member of the.. Irish Boarding Kennels and Cattery Association (IBKCA).. and we have undertaken to abide by their code of ethics..
