The Family Resource Centre has developed a number of community-based services for the people within the catchment area which includes Adamstown, Barronstown, Carrigbyrne, Newbawn, Oldcourt, Clonroche, Old Ross and surrounding areas.. Raheen Catering Service was set up in 2004 to provide snacks and lunches for children attending the Childcare Centre, Staff who work there and the wider community.. This service continues today but has also been expanded to includes twice weekly Day-Care meals and Friday Food for the neighbouring primary school.. Catering Services.. Ageing with confidence is a course specially designed with older people in mind.. It covers all aspects of growing older.. The course runs for 8 afternoons and will take place in Raheen Community Centre, it will be conducted by facilitators trained in this area and is a joint venture between Raheen Family Resource Centre, Wexford Local Development and Age and Opportunity.. The first night will comprise of registration of participants and there will be health checks such as blood pressure, BMI carried out.. There will then be a different speaker each week on health related topics.. The participants will set their own challenge, whether it is to get fit, loose weight, or give up smoking etc and they will be supported to make these lifestyle changes.. The programme will be run in conjunction with the health promotion department of the HSE.. This programme is open to all and is offered at a nominal price.. This is a FETAC course and is aimed at anybody who has an interest in woodwork and would like to learn more, and achieve a recognised certificate, the modules to be covered include: Tools and Equipment, Preparation and Design, Woodcraft Techniques and Safety.. Introduction to Healthcare.. This is a FETAC course and is aimed at anybody who is working in a caring environment or would like to work in this area.. The modules to be covered include: Understand the needs of both the Carer and the Client in a care.. Setting, Acquire a basic understanding of working within a care setting, communication skills, understand the role of diet and lifestyle within the care setting.. Healthy Lifestyle Programme.. Raheen Family Resource Centre intend running a lifestyle programme on Tuesday mornings from 10am – 1pm.. We are making preparations for our summer projects for children with our very popular arts camps.. We also have for the youth club, workshops and other exciting projects in the pipeline.. Keep an eye on the papers for further information.. We are currently asking for your help and support with our annual fundraiser, this year we are doing bag packs in Supervalu New Ross on June 28.. th.. , 29.. and 30.. We are looking for people to volunteer to help with the bag pack.. The more people we have the less time you will have to spend packing.. We know and understand that your time is precious but we need the funds from our annual fundraiser to help support the ongoing services and resources of our project.. We would be so grateful if you could support us by giving of your time.. I would like to thank on behalf of the management and staff the parents who returned the completed evaluation forms, we have gained valuable information from theses and a report will be published and left in the foyer of the outcomes for you to read.. Wishing you a very happy summer!!.. Lynda Stacey (project manager).. Childcare.. School Tour.. The pre-school tour was a great success and enjoyed by all who attended on the 25.. of May.. Great activities were put on for the children at Woodfield house in Oylegate such as creating a scarecrow and making giant bubbles along with meeting the magical flower fairy who lives in the gardens of the house.. We would like to thank all volunteers who helped on the day and the drivers who brought us to the centre.. All help was greatly appreciated.. Pre-School Graduation.. The Pre-school Graduation will occur on Friday 29.. June in the FRC.. All parents are invited to attend on the day where a small show will be put on by the children and refreshments will be provided after the show for all.. Spaces Places.. We are currently taking bookings for the Baby Room, Wobbler Room and Toddler Room for September 2012.. The Baby Room and Wobbler Room currently have spaces if anybody is wishing to increase days or to start a child in these rooms at the present moment.. The Toddler Room is currently full but we have spaces for the summer and for a September start also.. The spaces for all rooms include full day care, half day care and sessional services available.. If you have any queries on the matter please contact either Moira on reception or Caroline.. Closing for summer.. The final day of school for the pre-school is Friday 29.. June 2012.. The facility will remain open throughout the summer with exception to the week beginning 6.. August as the entire FRC will close this week.. If parents wish for their child to remain in the centre for the summer they do not need to cancel out the children as we will remain open as normal.. For parents of children who wish to book their child out for the summer, they may do so in the next two weeks so as not to be charged into the summer months  ...   and harvest a vegetable crop using organic methods.. This is a Co Wexford VEC, Back to Education Initiative Programme and the tutor is Betsy Hickey.. Childcare Clonroche.. The Childcare Course is going very well in Clonroche.. The group meet every Thursday morning and they are currently undergoing a Fetac Level 4 course in Personal Effectiveness.. This is a Back to Education Initiative programme in conjunction with Co Wexford VEC and the tutor is Nuala Walsh.. Healthcare Course.. The Healthcare group are now on their final module Palliative Care and will have all eight modules for their full Level Five Certificate in Healthcare Support completed by the end of June.. This is a Back to Education Initiative Programme in conjunction with Co Wexford VEC and the tutor is Anna O’Dwyer.. Reading and Writing skills.. Do you wish to improve your reading and writing skills? If so we at Raheen Family Resource Centre can help.. Just phone Lynda or Bridget on 051-428805 for information.. Kitchen.. The meals forms for the next 4 weeks are now due, please complete and return to reception if you wish your child/children to avail of this service.. We would appreciate it if all parents requiring lunch for their child/children would fill in this pre booking form as it greatly assists us in budgeting.. Raheen Family Resource Centre is offering beginners computer courses for €1 per session, 2 hours per week for four weeks..     Descriptive info: Raheen Day Care Service for older people started originally as a pilot scheme in 2006.. On securing the Day Service was able to expand to a second day in 2007 allowing two different groups attend one on Wednesday’s and the other on Thursdays.. Presently there are thirty-five participants facilitated by eight volunteers, one part-time CE worker and one part-time coordinator.. These volunteers are essential to the project here,  ...   whom live in rural settings, thus including them in our community activities.. Equally essential is the role of our fund-raisers and the efforts of the twenty-three local ladies who walked.. the Flora Mini Marathon in Dublin to raise funds for Raheen Day Care Service is greatly appreciated..
