While much has been written of Ireland’s ‘Super Pirate’ radio stations like Radio Nova and Sunshine Radio, and some stations like Phantom have made the great leap to respectability, there is a whole hidden history to Irish pirate radio that has gone largely unexplored.. The earliest pirate radio stations in Ireland were schoolboy efforts which the state wished to suppress quickly, and which in some ways were ahead of official broadcasting.. • Title: get stuck in to our print content here : rabble
Descriptive info: get stuck in to our print content here.. It’s true that all sorts are on social welfare.. They practically let anyone sign on.. Which, is often wonderfully amusing as Georgia Corcoran finds out.. When I was a two-legged freak like most of the world, I went to Tesco for the same reasons as most people it s closest.. So, in an attempt to control my lazy spending in said establishment, I cycled through the local branch on a bike and pulled a few skids in front of customer service at 7am after a party last summer.. True story.. It worked a treat – barred from Tesco and forced to buy better products in better stores 500 metres down the road.. Ah the aul Dublin Coddle, sure ye can’t beat it.. But c’mere to me, yiz know it’s one of the most tasty meals a mammy can cook up for her chizzlers, but did yiz also know where the meal itself came from.. [Football] Board Walk Empire.. It’s difficult not to pass a decorated traffic light pole in Dublin city centre today.. While the City Council seem to be working over-time to remove stickers from just about everything in Dublin, Donal Fallon fills us in on how each of the four big football clubs in the city have done their  ...   of desk they have and trying to gauge roughly how many dancing bodies could be squeezed into a room have often become a distraction when they’re out and about.. These distractions sometimes lead to on the spot conversations with the bar staff or management about opening hours, budgets and availability.. Needless to say, oftentimes stiff opening hours and uptight policies can be a huge put off.. Uncommon Land.. The explanation they give is that the streets are “private”.. They were owned by property developers, but now that most of Tallaght Cross has passed into NAMA, the streets essentially belong to the proverbial people.. Yet those people cannot take photographs in the street, even though an array of CCTV cameras record their every move.. [Housing] Rack Rent.. Here in the Rabble Bunker we almost feel sorry for the government as it flops around like a hooked fish on the end of an IMF rod.. With a kind of reverse Midas touch effect everything they touch seems to turn to shit.. A fine example being their attempt at reducing the state’s burden in supporting around half of all rented accommodation through the Rent Allowance Scheme.. [Gombeen] Sean Sherlock TD.. Sheriff Sherlock has come to our lawless internet outpost, six shooter at the ready.. Boy thinks he s gonna fuck with our downloads..

Descriptive info: we are rabble.. rabble is a non-profit, newspaper from the city s underground.. It s collectively and independently run by volunteers.. We stand within, and with, Dublin as it struggles from below against the ghost of the Celtic Tiger and the state it left us in.. We support those who fight with a new  ...   hope in bleak times.. Those involved know each other from alternative media and street mobilisations, from raves, gigs and the football terraces, or by just living in the village that is Dublin.. We range from people living and raising their families in the city, to community and political activists, to artists, messers and mischief-makers..

  • Title: We’re Different. : rabble
Descriptive info: we intend to do something new.. Papers flutter in every bar, cafe and shop in the city, but we want something more than the ad rags, cultural poseurs and glossy mouthpieces for power that comprise most of the freebies.. We want to draw stories from the harsh realities of the city and also sketch paths towards building Dublin as we’d prefer it.. Imagine a newspaper acting like a melting pot of connections, not just between emergent cultural scenes and every day life, but also between social movements and power structures.. We want a community newspaper for today.. A free paper for free people.. Let’s breathe new life into journalism in the city and provide a space for emerging writers.. We want a generational voice to flourish outside the carrot on a stick culture of internships and a dying newspaper industry.. We are going hard copy to develop talent outside the rapid-fire clamor of the blogosphere.. Expect original story-telling and explorations of the boundaries between photography, new fiction, journalism and art.. This is a space for beginnings.. We want to transform the newspaper as  ...   If our sustainers and readers help keep us afloat, we ll remain a truly independent voice for the city.. We want to offer an alternative look at Ireland after the boom and help contribute to the popular imagination of what is possible.. There is a new generation surviving on the dole, engaged in a mundane struggle to maintain, as power force feeds us austerity.. Too many naively celebrate the creative side of the recession and utter non-committal grumbles about how we got here.. We’ve no qualms about what side of the fence we sit on.. Expect a sharp, non-dogmatic eye on our gracious leaders and power brokers, uncovering the incompetencies, the facts and realities they want to lock away in the closet.. Leave a Reply..
