Each of Louth’s three local authorities has their own collection, with different histories, approaches and motivations for acquiring art.. Some of the pieces date back to the early years of the 20th Century, but the majority of the artworks date from the last twenty years.. The Municipal Art Collection of Drogheda Borough Council is housed and cared for in the.. Highlanes Gallery.. This collection is one of the most important local  ...   venue, after it was donated by the Franciscan community.. The relatively small number of artworks in the Drogheda Borough Council Collection reflects this historical legacy.. Dundalk Town Council has artworks in its collection dating back to the early years of the 20th century, with the bulk of the works having been purchased since the 1990s.. Louth County Council, similar to Dundalk Town Council, purchased most of its collection within the last twenty years, and has much of its collection on view in its offices and public areas of County Hall..

Ciara Agnew is from Dundalk, County Louth.. She studied art in University of Ulster, where she obtained a BA Honours Degree in Fine and Applied Arts, with specialisation in the area of painting.. She joined Bridge Street Studios in 2002 and in 2005 was selected by Louth County Council as artist in residence at Tallanstown National School, Tallanstown, Co.. Louth.. In 2006 she held a solo show ‘Open Window’, in the Carlinn Gallery, Carlingford, Co.. Louth, she  ...   She has exhibited in several galleries including, The Sheldon art Gallery, Cork, Ogham Gallery, Belfast, Clotworthy Arts Centre in Antrim, Basement Gallery, Dundalk and she exhibits annually in the North Louth Artist Exhibition held in the Louth County Museum.. Collections include ACC Bank and The Office of Public works have included fourteen of her paintings in the State Collection, that hang in various government buildings, one of which was included in the published catalogue.. The Art of the State.. 1995-2005.. Her paintings are also held in private collections, such as the Smurfit collection and other collections in the France, United States and Australia..
